Post Traveling ...
Hi Zen,

British Airways has a direct flight into Austin, once a day.
Virgin Atlantic has a flight with
1 stop in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as your port of entry. Then to Austin.

Some info for you regarding possible dates:

March 10th thru March 19th 2017, I am on Spring Break.
Weather is cool then,(and relatively dry) in the 40s - 60s Fahrenheit.

Another option would be June 2017.
Probably
the second week of June.
School ended on the first week of June this year (2016).
Weather is warmer. In the low to upper 80s.
I do not know if that would be too hot for you.

It could be any March or June that works for you, would not have to be 2017, if that is too soon.

I have a short break in the Fall semester, but it is too short to merit the cost of traveling.
And for the Christmas Holidays,
I'll be spending those with my mom.
She's getting older and has mobility and health issues,
and I want to do things with her while she is still on this plane, and still a bit mobile.

Post Re: Traveling to the USA and Territories
Here is some really useful info, for a person traveling
from
the UK to the USA:

1-- The two best Credit cards for foreign travel with the lowest fee charges are:
Nationwide Gold and Halifax Clarity cards

2--Get a prepay card. FairFx works in the USA and can be topped up for free online

3-- Get an Internation driver’s license;
it is issued by the AA and can be obtained at Main Post Offices for £5.50 /year

4-- A good car hire insurance is:

http://www.insurance4carhire.com/usa-ca ... oCFaPw_wcB

5-- Atlas travel for travel insurance will cover you until 65.
Nationwide Flex Plus (not free) has international travel insurance thrown in for free so it pays for itself

6--You will need to apply for an ESTA for entry to USA (don’t get scammed by sites claiming to do it for you for a huge fee) Use the official us .gov site
You can copy and paste the following in a web browser: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

UK provider Three has mobile phone contracts that let you ring home using your home allowance minutes (huge saving)

I would have thought Texas would have been warmer.

I used to think that too,
and it was part of the reason I did not want to move out here. I thought it was hot all the time.
It is a dry heat, so you do not sweat.

Our temperatures are still in the mid-80s right now. Some days, and during part of the day, it might reach 90.
As June progresses, it'll get hotter.

Kind of like Spain, where the cut off date for travel is the first week of June. After that it is like being in hell.
It was a 106 in June when I went to Spain, my eyeballs dried out.

Last year down in my place it was 42C for a few days in August which is about the same I think. All we could do was sit in the pool.

We have to have air conditioning.
Otherwise both people and animals will die.

Here, in the summer, a lot of cattle dies, and unfortunately, elderly people who live alone at home and cannot afford air conditioning.
Some communities have "cooling centers" so people can spend the hot hours of the day there.

Weather is horribly extreme here in the continent.

I sleep with a face hugger, ipso facto I prefer not to share. I will find something. Time yet.
