Post New Beginnings
This is a long story, so bear with me!!
It's about the amazing miracle of life!

As you all know, between my daughter and I, we have 5 Corgis.
My boys are Seymour & Toby.
My daughter has Garfy & Daisy.

And my son-in-law adopted a 5 year old Corgi, Angelica, and renamed her Zoey.
Zoey thinks she is my dog, because her previous owner was a little old lady. And I am an old lady, so she bonded to me and my black and white Corgi, Toby. She is his shadow! Really cute!

Well, I had to rename Zoey, and am now calling her Seti, after the SETI program (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) due to the large Corgi ears that move as if they were sound radars (which they are!)

Well, something incredible has happened in my daughter's best-friend's life, Carolina.

Carolina and her husband Jason cannot have children, so they became certified as Foster parents.
Well, they will be adopting a little baby girl, and they named her Zoe.
Which in Greek means "life".
Carolina is half Greek.

Zoe came into the world in such a strange way, that it is a miracle she is alive.
Her biological mother is a homeless woman, who is a drug user.
I will call her Sue.
Sue's pregnancy was 25 weeks (full term is 40 weeks, so she was 6 months gestational age) when she gave birth to Zoe, in her sleep.
Sue woke up, probably from a drug induced stupor to find that she had given birth.
She took the little girl, wrapped her in a towel and took her to the hospital.
I do not even know how Sue got to the hospital.
At the hospital Sue gave the baby to the nurses and told her "She was not supposed to be born yet" and she relinquished her paternal rights to Zoe.

The medical staff did not think Zoe would live, because she was SO premature, she weighed 2 pounds (0.9 kilo). Also, they think that if she lives, she will be blind and severely disabled.
Well, the social work agency called Carolina and Jason and asked if they wanted to foster a premie baby, in case the little girl lived.
She was suffering from breathing aepnea, where she would stop breathing altogether and she was hooked up to a machine.
Carolina and Jason said yes, and started going to the hospital everyday, and holding her. My daughter goes too, every other day. And they hold her talk to her, massage her.

Zoe is now 6 pounds (2.7 kilos.)
She was born Jan 3rd, so she is 3 months/premie. She would still be inside her mother, had she not been born, (8 months= 36 weeks)
She does not seem to be suffering the aepnea at this moment.
She is still dinky, and her little arms are getting full of rolls!
And she has big fat chubby cheeks.
When she sees the adults who visit her daily, she recognizes them responds to them and smiles.

My daughter says she is sure that the reason Zoe has done so well is because of Carolina and Jason's dedication, they visit her everyday and hold her and interact with her.
Jason has taken on a second job, so as to make a chunk of money,
so they can buy a house.
They live in an apartment right now.

We still do not know what her mental/intellectual abilities will be like,
and we keep praying things will go in her favor, for she is such a little fighter!

Zoe has been able to leave the hospital.
She has been at home with Carolina and Jason for 6 days.

Carolina is experiencing the joys and craziness and despair and elation that comes with new motherhood!

Baby cries,
spits up, there is tons of laundry to do,
the dog licks the baby,
baby throws up at 7pm every night like clockwork. :excite:

I laugh.
Have been there, and have done that!

I keep telling her this is what "normal" looks like when you get home from the hospital with the baby!

Zoe is 16.5 kilos.

She was 4.4 at birth!
She spent 4 months in the incubator.

Doctors did not expect her to live.
Eye Doctor now says she is not blind.
She recognizes everyone who has interacted with her.
She sees the dog and responds to him.

Yay!! We are all very happy!
