And your hotels are very expensive. At least 3X what they are in France.

I have lived in barracks and slept in hostels all over Europe. The cheapest hostel in Austin is nearly twice the price of the hotel I use in Rouen. In any case, I don't share anymore.

On your side of the damp patch parts of trains are joined together with a certain piece of equipment called a buckeye coupling also called a knuckle coupling. It resembles two hands linked, fingers inside the other hand. This replaced the link and pin as seen in The General (Buster Keaton). It is standard from Fairbanks to Ushuaia. On this side, recent history apart because they keep trying to reinvent the wheel, the standard form of coupling has been an arrangement of chain link and buffers. A buffer is a spring loaded contact device, one each side of the vehicle. The chain link can be tightened in one of two ways by having a screw section or an irregular shaped center section. Looking at the front of any train, it is the first thing I notice.

Because it is your expertise!
It does not make you a pedant!
I'm sure you despair!
