Post I am worried.
I realise the power of Facebook but the point of the forum is educational and understanding and support. What is said is up for others to read and I hope this has a positive effect. Facebook posts are here and then gone.
I am worried because the forum is not being used and I do not see how long we can go on like this. The costs are not cheap but they are given because we support the ULC.
However I do not see the point if it is continuing to not be used. I would be glad to hear your thoughts.

We need fresh blood Pete. Adventurers. But I think this place is a bit deep for most. They prefer shallower waters where it is safer. Then of course, there are some who have been blown back to the stone age temporarily. Just for want of anything to say I could report that the weather here is cold wet and windy but no snow. The camp site has a new management who are looking to close the place in the winter but there are about 400 permanent residents here with nowhere else to go so that should be interesting. The last wine stall in the market closed yesterday for the season so it will be caf├ęs and bars for a few weeks. Wine stalls in markets here aren't where you go to just buy wine and take it away. They are like pop up pubs. Wine is bought by the bottle and shared. The French are more sociable than the English. Although they don't do banter, or real ale. I miss that. Existentially, I have been following Tom Campbell and his big T.O.E. On YT. I discovered him because of my interest in quantum theory and the measurement problem. Well there is something to read for the casual passerby. Maybe we can catch some fish.

The trouble is every time people mostly expect me to post. Very rarely do people initiates a topic. You and Hermano exemted. Even on the Ulc.net its the preachy types that usually trigger a debate. We do not have preachy types.

Post Re: I am worried.
I am sorry for my absence over the last months. I am now High Priest of a coven and I have been directing all my energies in that direction.

Firstly let me reassure you that this forum will continue to run so that any member may drop in whenever they have time. The costs associated with it are incorporated into my Reseller Package with my host company. There is therefore no additional cost attributed to keeping the forum running.

I would love to see the forum used more by the members. I believe that Facebook has its limitations, however, it is an ideal platform for those interested in the ULC to come and shake hands. If they are genuinely interested then they should be directed to the forum to join us here.

Califer

Post Re: I am worried.
Id love to be much more active, and I do aim to be. Over the past year it has been a lot from deciding that I wished to pursue my calling to be a vicar and the fact I was starting to get more involved in my local church as well.

I realize of course as well that my voice is one focused within Christianity, but always do enjoy a good discussion, and why I find the online forum helpful, it is a poor substitute for real person to person interaction. By that I mean it is a shame that the ULC in the UK isnt able to be an actual physical presence (again not the fault of anyone here, just the way it is in the UK for other religious organisations) but I think that plays a part of it.

I love the ULC as place for education that is informal and a place to talk, but it lacks (again not the fault of anyone individual) that process in which someone may want to explore in a more formal way and this goes for or cousins across the pond who may offer stuff but it isnt accredited. Again that isnt the end all or be all but its something I've discussed with other ULC members off forum as part of other groups such as the PCA (Progressive Christian Alliance) CUA (Christian Universalist Association) and many started their journey as part of ULC forums before going on to these other groups because they have a physical presence and other things that I have mentioned.

Others have gone on and explored their journey with places like the Unitarians. This forum is great and is great for discussion and for the wide variety of views it holds, how to get more use out of it is a hard question because I don't honestly know what you ultimately want to get from the forum?

What is ultimately the idea for the ULC UK going forward? If its much of the same then it may be more cost effective in the long run to make it a closed facebook group (I'm not advocating that by the way I'm just giving you my thoughts) Like I said I enjoy the forum but I suppose it comes down to what you guys want for the forum going forward. It would be a shame to see the forum go.

Please dont close it. I know I dont take part much but I do pop in from time to time to see who's doing what and how everyone is progressing. I like to read the comments. It makes me think & re-evaluate myself & my own often misguided opinions on things. Round here most peoples views on things are similar so I easily become blinkered, this group is diverse with differing opinions and/or reasons why they hold the opinion. Its eye opening. I learn things from all the different peoples faiths or non faiths. Yes I have fb but this is separate.

Hi Lisa, its just that the forum costs lots of money which Califer pays. I come on here nearly every day and it is heart breaking to see no one using the forum. As admin it is our job to keep the furom running, but if it has become pointless today then we need to consider things.
The point of the forum is we can teach each other for others to read and socialise. With FB it is here today and gone tomorrow and nothing is learnt or gained.

ok so this site costs. I'm not rich by any means and we live off benefits due to my husbands disabilities and me being his carer but I'd pay something toward keeping the site open I could only put in a small amount to the pot but I'm willing to. I like this site. Right now its gone very quiet and I admit I rarely have any input but then that's because I dont actually get much time to myself to think let alone come up with a point of interest to start a conversation.

I would like to learn more from you all as to what everyone's faith or non faith is? What brought you here to ULC? Do you run a group or congregation or are you lone like me? Are you all UK based or where in the world do you live ? - area not address.

I have no idea what the costs are but I pay my lodge fees so another tenner or so wouldn't be excessive. All things considered I may have to give the siblings a bit of a body swerve for a while anyway. We are encouraged to study the mysteries of nature and science etc and in my contemplative winter isolation down here on the Bay of Biscay I have done just that. I must say, it has been illuminating. Pete. Try and get hold of some cannabis. If I am not being presumptuous.
