Post SAVE THE STONEHENGE DROVE!
EH having agreed to move the Stonehenge visitors centre, now want to close off the lane running past the Stones where friends of mine have lived, to transport paying fleeces to the stones from the new centre.

Because they are moving their centre away from where it is now they want it all to be 'open'. Which means fenced off further away in other words. So far any time anyone talks with E/H they say they don't know what will happen but they do. We already know that we can't really trust anything they say after this summers solstice.

At the moment we are gathering like minded folk together to fight to stave off any ideas of closure. As you will see on the maps because they are closing the A344 up to stonehenge and the other end of the A344 is where the new visitor centre will be, they will want to use this for transporting paying visitors down to the stones i imagine, and actually the A344 will be closed all the way up to the visitors centre.

All they actually have to do is close off the gate on the A344 end and let us continue using the drove, just arriving and leaving from the A303 end.

{color=#004080]Maybe a letter campaign would be in order.

When wil EH learn?[/color]

sorry for contacting y'all but i thought y'all ought to know that in 2 weeks E/H are putting n a planning application to the county council for closure of A344 and the drove.

also we heard that they were chucking folk off the sanctuary at avebury. We went down there to check it out, avebury of course was crawling with police and there were no vans parked up on the sanctuary.

it feels like they are closing down the whole area to travellers, hippies and anyone who wants the freedom to park up without paying the masters.

Objections have to be received by Friday 6 November 2009 and comments and representations should be addressed for the attenion of Peter Ridal, Halcrow Group Ltd, Burderop Park, Swindon, SN4 0QD or sent by email to ridalpj@halcrow.com - all comments will be passed to Wilts CC for their consideration.

It is as we thought.

Rec from Lois today x

We have had a prompt reply from Halcrow for which Ive thanked them. So we can take a breather until the Visitor Centre application is validated by Wilts CC and we can view it online [or get a copy of it if you request one] as it looks unlikely to be in before the TRO deadline for objections on Nov 6th = so just put your objections in for the TRO and we can deal with the VC plans when we see them. My objections to not being able to park anywhere in the WHS were on H&S and Cultural and Disability grounds [fine if EH can provide facilities]

Dear Ms Lloyd

Thank you for your enquiry; we have notified the authorities of the issues raised. Please note that this is the first step in a statutory process and we would not expect the Order to be implemented until late 2011.

We will keep you informed of any further developments.

Regards
Peter

Odd that Halcrow is associated with the Sanctuary. In Andover they are one of the Funeral Directors!

I think we should be better informed!

At the moment, yes. I'm still hoping to move to my other house in Sussex, but I've gotta sell this heap of bricks first.

Cheers, Midori

Subject: Stonehenge Visitor Centre - new application in today

Hello all, pass this to whom you think may be interested, You may have this more than once, via the Yahoo group etc, but here it is again, its important and will affect our access and it seems there will be a stock fence around the Stones anyway so the idea of the freeing of them is a myth, so far!

Peter Ridal just informed me that the application has a reference number and is online - Loraine Knowles is a director at EH Bristol in case you were wondering, dealt with her on quite a few issues and this may be yet another :)

going to make a large cup of tea and find some cake, think Im going to need it whilst ploughing through this.

REMEMBER to get your objections in re the TRO on the drove by Nov 6th

Im going to adjust mine when Ive seen how parking and disability access is dealt with in the above application :)
