Cardiff council denies planning to cut down healthy trees in Bute Park

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/cardi ... -25157352/

And details further down join in the debate on monday night as Berman talks about climate change in Cardiff!!!

21 conveniently sick trees right in the way of the new road Cllr Howells wants to build for us in listed Bute Park? So sick!!!

Why is there no report and if there is as there should be then let us see it!!
Detailing the trees and a report on the reasons for them being chopped down? Cllr Howells always says that trees knocked down to make way for excavations for the bridge/for the road/in the way of the city centre TV screen at St Davids all conveniently
diseased?
This is a scandal that they he and his other colleagues can make excuses without proper process and chop down mature trees in a listed park for a road for articulated lorries!!

I wrote to cllr howells regarding the trees and he sent a reply saying the matter will be investigated and a full response sent in due course. No reply for the present.

Why is there no report detailing the trees and a report on the reasons for them being chopped down? Cllr Howells said that the trees knocked down to make way for excavations for the bridge
were diseased. This is a scandal that they can make excuses without proper process in a listed park! Where is the environmental impact assessment required by their own parks policy?
Chopping mature trees is not sustainable and destroys the Eco system in place and the homes of thousands of insects, birds and flora and fauna. New trees do not replace what is lost.

The Green Flag award was also suspicious as cllrs wined and dined the judges in the castle and would not disclose their names! Why the need for secret judges?

Too much too hide? And why ignore so much public opposition? There is no evidence that park users support this scheme. I know disabled people who oppose this scheme.

The further destruction of Bute Park and plans to build on Rumney Rec & 100 Green field acres at Junction 33 and the selling off of school playing fields for building - our greens space is not safe with the Lib Dems/Plaid Cymru council.....will not be forgotten at election time.

We had a similar problem in Bristol. First they said they wanted to plant smaller trees, then it was a health and safety risk (tall trees may drop branches on playing children), then they held a meeting and brought in some fictitious experts to say the trees would die soon, and after none of this worked they brought in the lorries but backed away when locals chained themselves to the trees. We have not heard from them for about 2 years now. I think its because they felt the protests would cost them more than cutting down the trees near my home.
