Post DEFENCE CHIEFS PLAN TO MAKE PLYMOUTH NUCLEAR SCRAPYARD
A DEFIANT message has been delivered to defence chiefs over plans to scrap nuclear submarines in Plymouth: 'the fight starts now'.

Council leader Vivien Pengelly was speaking as the Ministry of Defence announced it will host a meeting in Plymouth on Friday over the controversial Submarine Dismantling Project. The project could see 27 de-fuelled nuclear submarines stored and cut up at Devonport Naval Base over the next 60 years.

Plymouth has always been loyal to the Navy. What a way to pay them back. It is sickening.
My Dad and my Brother used to be stationed at Devonport.
Whose idea was this plan :aargh:

I don't understand the issue.

We used to defuel in Chatham.Been there, done that 33 yrs ago.

Boats have always been scrapped when they are no longer required.

27 boats over 60 years. Less than 1 boat every two years.

Excellent news for for the dockyard mateys.60 years work guaranteed.

Scrapping a defueled nuclear boat is no different to scrapping any ship.

The reactors will be securely removed with no danger to the public.

This I can assure you.

I guess what worries us is that we make the same mistakes Russia has done and we have to live with a ticking ecological time bomb for years to come.

The problem with the Russians Pete is that they favoured quantity over quality.
And now they can't cope with the mess they've made.
We on the other hand, went down a different road.
