I am informed that their two year training is very strict. They cannot even go out or into a town without an escort. In other words they eat, sleep, and breath, what they are being told.
No room for the questioning sort (IMO). I doubt any of us would fit in.

Fundamentalism anyone?

Do you know that 'Taliban' means 'Student' in Farsi.

Mao (Cat) did similar in China.

There ain't much new under the sun.

Forgive me for forgetting his name, but there was a jesuit priest who said,

'Give me a child 'till he's seven, and I'll give you a Catholic for the rest of his life'.

Pan Narans.

I suspect that they are no more moron than the rest of us. As they say, One mans religion is another mans laughing stock. I go with if you find meaning there then go for it. Just do not expect me to follow.

I was pushed into the Latter Day Saints by my stepfather when I was 12. All I can say is CULT!!! Oh, sorry, was that my speaking voice? I was sure that was an inner dialogue... hmmmm... The only things I received from that upbringing is a healthy fascination with all spiritual paths and the need to stay away from small town fundamentalists! Oh, I did see my first proof of magic (read prayer here...) at the hands of Mormons. A laying on of hands, anointing with sweet oil and a blessing for a swift recovery after my tonsilectomy. I and 4 other kids went in at the same time for the procedure and I was on solid foods a full 4 days before anyone else. Now, the mormons no longer wish to chat with me after a couple of failed attempts to get into my house. For some reason, they get really nervous when you just stare at them from the crack of your door and say nothing, odd. :evl:

Thankfully, I live in the Pacific Northwest and the witch culture has been accepted if not condoned.

So you live a long way from Salem then?

I think that the Saints mythology is in the same league as that of old L.Ron.
Probably an excellent example of early science fiction/fantasy what with the magic glasses and all.

Yeah, alot of the Mormon 'history' is a bit, shall we say, suspect?

Unfortunately, I live on the opposite coast from Salem. Thankfully, I have been blessed with a solo path in which to develop my own philosophies and spirituality. :witch: Most of my influences have been books and other solitary practitioners.

We don't have Mormons in my town, but we do have JWs and Plymouth Brethren, and they are an odd lot!

I don't mind the JWs, I've been chatting to them for 27years now, and am on first name terms with many of them. They give me The Watchtower and Awake! every month and I find them fascinating reading, as well as fuel for my next lot of questions   They are very moral and kindly folk, once you can get past the preaching, and probably far better Christians than regular churchgoing folk.

They keep inviting me to visit their Kingdom Hall, and their Conventions, but I ain't goin! This horse ain't goin' near the waterhole, let alone drinking!

Cheers, Midori

I thought you were going to say fuel for your next fire. My mother dragged me along to the JW meetings when I was little and we went to the big do's a couple of times. My only memorable impression was at Welwyn Garden City station. We were waiting for a train when it rolled in pulled by one of the last steam loco's in service. It was worth the whole trip just for that. I found one of their mags on my train recently. It gave me several minutes of incredulous amusement.
