Yeah it was great fun. Loved abseiling but was never keen on rock climbing and mountaineering. Do you remember 11 yrs ago though it'll be 12 this yr the avalanche accident just after Christmas in Aonach Mor Scotland where4 Scouters lost their lives? My ex (before I met Stan), Ian Edwards, was one of them. We did ventures together though I'd known hi and his twin, Steve, since they were cubs and their Mum, Carol, was my guide leader too so I'd known them for ever. I still miss him but he was doing something he loved and he was an experienced climber it was just one of those natural tragedies that occur that take away those we love before we are ready to part with them. Just as it is for the families and friends who were caught in the French floods of this week.

One of the most daft memories I have are of Guernsey, great place by the way if you've never been especialy when they have the flower festival its beautiful. Anyway the daft memory is such a simple one. Washing my hair under a freezing cold standpipe water tap just as it starts to rain with that lovely fine spray yet it was warm weather. Absolute madness but my hair shone so well after that.

I dont think I ever went to moors. Did Norway only i was a toddler then ( I was born into scouting and started camp at 4mths old), I did Guernsey a few times, Forest of Dean, New Forest, Dorset, Downe, Gillwell Park, Brownsea Island, our campsite, they're ones I can recall with the 5th and I was a leader for a while with the 8th and did Thriftwood and Brentwood too.
Good times they were

You did a lot varied camping places. Wow!
I used to go the North Yorkshire moors mostly, also been camping in the lake district. I once did that in the middle of winter. The outside of the tent was as tough as wood because it was so cold. You cold knock on it. If you poured water onto the ground, it crackled as it froze before it hit the ground.
Brrh!
Okay I must of been mad to do it but it was fun.

It still it has great memories for me.

Wow, I bet they wouldnt allow that now. You're lucky you didnt freeze. Still I think we were made of sterner stuff than our children. They're all so used to central heating. They dont know what its like to get up and have the windows iced up on the inside.

You should check out their website I sent a load of the pictures over as Dad kept lots of albums. They even went to Belguim in 1938, Dad was in it then as a scout (obviously not me). Google 5th Dartford Scouts.

Hah, the house I lived in in Glasgow had ice inside the windows. And that was in the summer.

I still do not have central heating.
Ice on the windows in summer Zen? I see the ice patterns on the windows here in winter but never in summer. No wonder you came down south.

I was only in Scotland in the first place 'cos I was press ganged.
Took me 21 years to get home.
I met a bloke once who was in the B.E.F.
He said that the only reason he went back to France was because he went
on a day trip to Calais the year before and someone nicked his coat.
He's the only person I've ever met who'd crossed the channel before the war.
He was 89 years old and travelling alone.(this was about 10 years ago) we were in a bar in Cap d'Agde.
(The naturist quarter). He also told me he'd had a bit of a surprise the year before.
He'd met his daughter and her family in the same place. The secrets we keep eh!
I don't bother being reticent anymore, this is the age of Aquarius after all.
Do your own thing, just don't P on my rug.
Oh yeah. I also recently kind of became a Dudeist.Um,forgot where I was going with this.
