This is his take on it:

Electric cars use up electricity from the power plant. So you are simply replacing one type of dirty fuel (gasoline in the US) for another type of dirty fuel.

But, I will tell you this, I work at the Fiat of Austin Dealership, and our Fiat dealership does not sell electric Fiats.

Last week a young lady came in and asked if we sold electric Fiats.
I said" "Sorry, no we don't! Only California and the New England regions do (both coasts)"

And she said: "Darn it! I have solar panels and they make more electricity than I could possibly use in a day, and I am wanting to get an electric car!"

But we get LOTS of sunshine in Texas.
NOT Chicago, rains there almost every day, and if it does not rain, it is overcast.

England might have similar issues to Chicago.

Great point! I think that's true.

I know, we actually do not stop to think about that.
But, if one does have solar panels, then it is worth your time and money.

Otherwise, your electricity bill goes up.

I think the biggest issue at the moment is recharging speed. Couple that with range and we still have some issues to resolve. It would probably go a bit quicker if the corporations weren't so fixated on fossil fuels.

Are they slow to recharge, then?
I never thought about that!

Of course, if they covered all the roads with that wire mesh you get at the dodgems and fitted trolley poles to the cars.........

Yes, but you'd be able to overtake. I might patent the idea.

You don't think it'd get rather messy with all the poles, and mesh and cars?

It'd be cool if they could also be programmable, where you type in the address and they take you to where you need to go!!

Well they could experiment with the Chicago El. It's already there. All they have to do is put some chicken wire underneath it.

LOL!
Sounds horribly dangerous!

The El system is up on narrow bridges, that criss cross the city.
The bridges are very very old and decrepid, with rusted iron and wood that is past its prime.
It's a real wonder that the bridges do not collapse.

There are traffic lights that require that the cars wait right under the bridges, and I was always terrified the train would fall on my car!
I would creep out as far forward into the intersection, without getting in the way of the cars who had the right of way!
