progress is good!

interesting re: wheat plastic  pete

slowly, slowly I believe things are changing. in some places quicker than others. here in california, it's the odd bird who asks for a plastic bag and does not carry their own, who doesn't carry their own water in a reusable container - not so much in the city where I lived on the east coast of the us.

what grinds my gears is the soda bottlers who have taken up health drinks and waters - telling us that their "filtered spring water" is superior to other water. really? it reminds me of when I was younger and told by nestle corporation that their formula was healthier for my infant than breast milk. even at twenty I knew that was a whole lot of nonsense...

Years ago Nestlé (formerly Nestles round here) got into a bit of a scandal by selling powdered baby milk in Africa. To women who had no safe water supply. With obvious consequences.

I have also heard it said they also sold powdered milk (not the baby kind) for babies too. Even though it is forbidden for that purpose in the UK.

yes, why I detest nestle and other multi-nationals who sell their wares with impunity and no concern for people who would be adversely affected, oh yes, and the babies who would die...

pfffttt...

I know many Quakers who will not touch nescafe'.
Luckily there are many fair trade coffees that taste better (IMO).

I hear tap water goes through stricter controls than bottled water; by this reasoning I would conclude that tap water is better unless the council have been doing maintenance and the water comes through brown. :eew:

Some while back I worked in Clevedon in North Somerset. The tap water in the hospital tasted so bad we all brought our own water in with us. They said you could boil it and then leave it to settled and drink the upper part but it still tasted horrible. I felt sorry for the patients who could not get out and buy their own.

we bring our own water to work here in Derby...the water tastes foul so we use bottled water for the kettle or fill up containers from our tap at home in Chesterfield and use that.
