I'm taking the troops to Butser Roman villa Saturnalia followed by a Celtic do in the round house afterwards where there will be hot chocolate (I was hoping for mead) and story telling round the fire.

Is this a yearly thing? It sounds really cool! I'd love to go!

Probably. It will be our first time. You can google Butser Ancient Farm. I was there several years ago to see a Roman cookery demonstration just after the villa was built. I didn't think that the villa was all that good. I think they were trying to do to much with to little. There is a better reconstructed villa out by Gloucester. But the roundhouses are quite awesome.

I'll be in the UK for Christmas 2017 season.
I will probably be relocating to Stowmarket.
I'll have to look up how far the village is from Stowmarket.

Stowmarket is in Suffolk. The land of the southern Angles. It is in the East. Butser is in the South and Gloucester in the West. You won't be far from a recreated Anglo Saxon village. Actually, as England is about half the size of Rhode Island, as an American you won't be far from any where.

That is actually quite true. The continent is so huge over here!

My Uncle came to visit from Australia when I lived in Scotland about thirty years ago. He thought nothing of driving three hours just to have a look at something. He said it took him longer to drive into town when he lived in the Blue Mountains.

I understand this.
I lived in Champaign Illinois for many years. And I took a job in Michigan when my kids were little.
My boyfriend at the time was still in Illinois.
We took turns driving on weekends to see each other. It was a 5 hour drive.
I'd stick my kiddos in the car right after school on Fridays, and we'd hit the road.
I'd have everything packed beforehand, of course. It used to take an hour in bumper to bumper traffic around the Chicago area. That added an hour to the trip.
I'd drop off the kiddos with their father in Champaign for the weekend, I would get into town around 10-ish.
Then on Sundays, around 8pm, we'd get back on the road and head back to Michigan.
It was a pig when it was snowing!!! That I hated! It was a miracle we never ran off the road and ended up in a ditch!
