Post The Pancha Ganesha Puja
In 1985 Sri Sivaya Subramuniyaswami (1927–2001), a Western Hindu Guru, created the "Pancha Ganesha Puja". It is a five day celebration of Sri Ganesha, the manifestation of God as the elephant-headed God. This celebration contrary to traditional Hindu religious celebration is not based on the lunar calendar, but on the solar one. This celebration lasts for five days beginning on December 21 and ending on December 25. It is a family based celebration similar to Christmas.

The celebration uses a Ganesh with five (pancha) heads. On the fifth day there will be five pujas (celebrations) and gifts for the family and friends (a similar Santa Claus Christmas without Christmas trees).

I celebrate the Pancha Ganesha Puja with the chanting of 108 Names of Lord Ganesha during the five days. As I write this it is December 22, 2013, and therefore the second day of the Puja, I will chant the Names of Lord Ganesh during my evening meditation.

Happy Pancha Ganesha Puja to all!

I had a good friend in the U.S. Navy who used to call me "Lu". I have not heard from him in a very long time. Thanks for the memory!
