Re: Was the Buddha and Atheist or a Theist?
The Buddha also said "Belief nothing if it does not makes sense to you, even if I have said it", great quote.
The Buddha was never a Lord, he simply was an ordinary man leaving wealth behind him in search of an enlightened mind which he got.
A great thing I like about Buddhism is that it does not layout any guidelines but merely provides guidance for one's own journey to enlightenment.

Luis is the expert here, but your right. It is often thought by outsiders that Buddha was a God. In truth he never ever claimed to be and never claimed that he achieved anything that others cannot achieve.

A commendable act in itself so I feel.

Re: Was the Buddha and Atheist or a Theist?
Sorry that I have been away for some time. The body is both friend and enemy, and now that I am approaching the big 70 age is showing its teeth.
Buddha was a real light to the world. Just before dying He asked His students to walk their own path. But the students were so human that they decided to collect the words of the Master for posterity. The problem was that the "Words of the Master" became a kind of "Sacred Words of the Master".
There is a Buddhist book called "The Dhammapada" that has a series of statements that are attributed to Lord Buddha. I doubt very much if everything that is found in that book are words said by Lord Buddha, but I accept the advice in said book as good spiritual advice. I highly recommend said book to every sincere spiritual seeker no matter what their religion might be or if they have no religion at all.
The following words are found in the Dhammapada and they are attributed to Lord Buddha: "For hatred can never put an end to hatred; love alone can" (Dhammapada verse 5).

Hatred is a wasteful emotion. It dulls the senses and gets in the way of spiritual progress.

Youth is wasted on the young. 'Tis a pity these kind of ailments were not regenerative instead of degenerative.

I completely agree with you! Could you imagine if all the gangbangers over here (in the US) had arthritis pain and stiffness! They would not be able to run around doing naughty things! LOL!

I think gangbang might mean something different over here.

Re: Was the Buddha and Atheist or a Theist?
Hola Hermano Luis, I am now living in the Austin Texas area, and working as a receptionist at the Fiat of Austin dealership. I have some great co-workers. One young lady, Lena, is quite interested in spiritual and metaphysical things and I did a search online for her, to see if Austin has an SRF temple and community, to recommend to her. I did find one! When I saw it I thought of you, for I know that you know the SRF temple and community in Puerto Rico.
