Is it a full moon yet? I have to admit I do a bit of howling, so I am told but for some reason I never remember it.

You guys make me laugh. Keep it up

Anyway I too adore the woods. Most of my childhood was spent in them. If I could I'd run away from this lot and go live in the woods, live off the land. I used to have such fun ....except if I needed to make the call of nature I always found the thistle or stinging nettle :sob: that bit wasnt so fun.

ah! the joys of the out doors. Nettles, thistle, mad bulls, gnats, ants and the odd poacher taking pot shots in your direction.

I have a scar under my left eye that I got after running into a barbed wire fence because we were running away from a farmer who gave us both barrels.
I think he took the hump 'cos we were playing cowboys with his cows.Up to that point I didn't know they could run that fast or as far.'specially with udders that full of milk.

Apparently, the landlord of my local saw a ghost on his stairs last night.
The building is about 300 hundred years old.Reckoned it was a child.
couldn't make out anything else.
If he sees it again I'll make some relevant enquiries.
Might need advice.

Pete were you there? I was so used to ants and gnats but I too got shot at once by our local farmer. I say I but it was a group in reality. We used to have a rope swing on an old oak tree but we ran amuck in his corn field while we played and he wasnt too approving of that. He didnt mind if we played in his hay barn though til my neighbour accidentally burnt it down.

Zen, all sounds very interesting re- your local. I wonder what the child is trying to tell you/your landlord? Have they seen him/her before?

Really, I loved growing up in the countryside. We used to have rope swing that went over a pond. One of us (usually me) would end up in it. I always had a healthy respect for farms. I remember my brother playing on a haystack. He fell off one day and heard a thud next to his head when he hit the soft ground. He looked, only to see a pitch fork had landed an inch from his neck and had stuck itself into the ground next to him. A very lucky escape.

I think we as children were so daring back then children of today just dont seem to know or appreciate the out doors that way we did. Such a shame, they dont know what their missing or what's missing them

Pete,
Farmers used to make air vents inside haystacks of bailed hay.
By stacking them a certain way.
So they wouldn't catch fire from overheating.
I think it is where I learned not to be claustrophobic in submarines.
Them were the days.
