From what I've read, the first four centuries of Paragray's existence as a colony it was ruled entirely by the Jesuits, and it would appear that they invented the entire "disappearing people" thing. Non-Catholics and especially any freemasons who were found in the country were routinely known to vanish, not always to turn up ever again even as a corpse.

Back in the 19th c they started a war with all their neighbours and lost more than 50% of their population. I shall have to look that one up again. If memory serves though, it was the first socialist country in the world but just like Rhodesia/Zimbabwe the peasants didn't know how to manage the land and they went bankrupt.

Yes they say the Lord works in mysterious ways. Well the church certainly does (IMO). You still get some who try to justify the inquisition and all the buring at the stakes and torturting that went on. You see they say they were heritics and therefore they were justified in what they did to protect their view of the so called word of God.
Do not look at the following link on church activities if your sensitive to such horror, but this did happen:-
http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vatic ... ican29.htm

Also see the bit on the massacre of the Cathars:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharism

Then people ask me why I do not see the Church as always right or bother to attend nowadays.

Pete, the museum in Carcasonne is very moving. I recommend it if you are ever down that way. I signed the visitors book as a born again heretic.

For the Roman Catholic Church, and for many other churches and religions, we are all heretics.

True Luis. It is a case of "their" religion says this or that and everyone must obey and they have licence to destroy all other faiths and their members. If this is the case then call me a heritic and I will wear the badge with pride. I like the way Bishop Spong describes it "Tribal Religion".

Well that's just their opinion. And as long as I can run away if I see them coming I will always say so.

It is such a shame. I believe in God and the Christ, but my local Church wanted to have me exorcised as a heretic some time ago. I couldn't believe it. It was because I said that Paganism is not evil. You'd think we were in the middle ages, although thank God we are not or I'd be a burnt cinder.

Welcome Rev Swan. good to hear from you. I mentioned that I did not believe that someone being gay was a sin and that there is no evidence that counselling would remove it. Got sent to Coventry for that one. I also do not think paganism is evil.
look out for the mobs with torches.
