There is now a petition online to protest to the Church of England for its position on gay marriage and calls for a more enlightened response.
See:- http://www.change.org/petitions/church- ... e_petition

As a non member,I'm as likely to petition the CofE as I am my nearest mosque for segregating men and women at prayer.
The issue could be resolved at a stroke if churches, mosques, synagogues and temples were not permitted to marry anyone.Blessings are a different matter as I stated in the governments petition.

I was confirmed C of E, but I see myself as nearer to the Quakers or Unitarians today. However, I signed the petition but I acknowledge in a common sense world your suggestion makes more sense. The trouble is with the Queen as the head of state and the CofE and the government's long relationship with the CofE and their placing much of CofE directives in law and that the CofE are part of the establishment in the House of Lords, I wonder if your what I believe to be a sensible suggestion will happen. In the mean time, like I said, I just filled in the petition.

It's still, almost, a free country. :bish: :jesus: :witch:  :yinyang:  :alien:

And if I have my, and others, way, the House of Lords will become the UK parliament and the House of Commons, the English parliament.
The CofE should be put back in the church where it belongs IMO.
The Monarch may be head of a particular belief system but she still invited a Scot who is intent on selling us out to the 4th Reich to become First Lord of the Treasury.

See where our freedom goes then when we are getting paid in New Reichmarks. :oldman:

if you guys ever get a law passed allowing gay marriage,it would be for the entire country.the patch work of laws here will take forever to settle, unless our federal government recognizes it.and that could depend on what happens in november.

I understand Mark. You come from a very large country with differing states and differing rules. That said, trying to change something that is accepted as part of the establishment over here is very difficult. I hope we do get gay marriage over here and in doing so make those states in the US who stand against it feel that much more isolated. I see this as a process of evolution rather than revolution and see it in terms of one step at a time towards the goal. I strongly believe eventually we will both get there.

Not quite true Mark. And it is all down to history.Wales and Northern Ireland operate under English law because of conquest.Scotland on the other hand only became part of the UK in 1707 after being bankrupted by their failed colony in Panama (Darian) and maintained its long established legal system. One of the perks of this is the ease with which one can be married and divorced. What currently is starting to irritate, post devolution,is that the largest and richest 'state' in the UK is subsidising all the others yet has no comparative legislature.
Can you imagine Texas, say, being run directly from Washington?
