Pete,

One way you might be able to offer Courses and Degrees with said Courses is by stating they are an Honorary Degree (the same what the ULC does with its Doctor of Divinity degree). Over here the D.D. is mostly considered an Honorary degree even with actual academic institutions such as Harvard or Yale. Though with me living here in the States I am not sure on the UK laws and if you would be able to actually do that.

As for the badges if you are part or know of ant of any local clubs or organizations you can always look into seeing if the organization has or would be willing to invest in one of the machines (or something similar) like this one http://www.thebarcodewarehouse.co.uk/id ... -solution/ (this is actually a complete starter kit with the printer, "ink" ribbon, 100 blank cards, card design software and a webcam for photo ID cards) and if they did find out if they would be willing to donate time on the machine to the ULC in the UK for the printing of Clergy ID badges (with the understanding that they will be reimbursed for the material costs).

I am sure your right my friend. What I am saying is in the UK should it come to a legal challenge, I cannot afford to pursue it. However, if individuals choose to offer them then I have no issue as long as you are not saying they are ULC in the UK forum qualifications. We have no funds and we are not going to ask for money. If they want to pursue those in the US then I say best of look to them as I am sure they will get no where.

rev rob:kind of jumping the gun on you,but i read your posts and petes.

first, all courses the seminary and hq offer are copy righted(whether just here in the us,or in other countries i do not know),so i doubt they could be offered in the uk in the sense you are thinking.my best guess is if you and other ministers wanted to write courses specifically for the uk ministers, you probably could.

however(and my ignorance is going to shine thru here),in the us,as long as they are not advertised as academic, honorary degrees can be issued by just about any church.i don't think that would work for you as you have no recognition from your government, and degrees take on a whole different meaning(for example,if i'm not mistaken, you could earn a doctorate in divinity from cambridge, and it would be an earned degree, where here in the us,no matter where you get it from it is honorary.)and could you imagine the flak that would occur after announcing that for a masters in religion only requires a test that has to have an 80% correct answer rate.the coe would be all over that like white on rice.

if you would like you can contact amy(she and kevin have joined forces so now all the courses that hq offers also apply to a degree from the seminary) she is available at amy@ulcseminary.org

hopefully all this babble is helpful.feel free to contact me if i can be of further help.

My question is geared to Rev Bob.

You mentioned you've taken several of the ULC courses, but you have had to pay to have the materials mailed to you, no? And that gets expensive?

So I am going to assume that the courses are not online.

Maybe the solution would be to have the ULC offer courses and the material for the courses online?
(they probably do already, and I am unawares...!!!)
That way one does not have to pay the very expensive international shipping!

I am studying to become a certified teacher, and my courses are online, and so are the articles and the exams I have to take. I print the materials, staple them and highlight them as I need to.

the monies i have paid out for the courses are for the seminaries fees.i do not know how much each course costs amy.i have never had any of their courses mailed to me.they always come in the form of emails.

courses from hq(and i have taken 2)come in the form of a booklet, with the test in the back.

not sure what the costs are when doing it in pounds.

I take it the ULC here in England could put together courses for a Honorary Degree, in other words only recognised by the ULC. In the same way we could put together some form of Diploma in Divinity. This being the case, with the Seminary items being used as the base material, perhaps this is something a group here in the UK could look at putting together.

Regarding postage/shipping of items, perhaps we could look at some sort of bulk purchase and see if that makes items cheaper. Just an idea, and it may have been tried before, but if we promote on this forum we are going to order 'item x' but need so many buyers and ask people to step forward, would this work? Pre-discussion could decide what 'item x' will be.

On a different note good to see there is another Devon based Minister on here. Hello Rev. Rob

One of the reasons I prefer to use the seminary in the US is because there is strong criticism of the titles in the UK and if they became popular then we may be barred from granting them. If they are granted by the US then there is little the UK can do except not recognise them.
I have had some occasional very angry people contacting me. They feel cross that the ULC is granting titles and qualifications that they had to word hard academically to earn. I tell them our titles are not academic but they are ULC church titles. However, they remain not happy. Yet, churches and universities do offer Honorary titles. Donald Trump was given one by Aberdeen University and has now had it removed from him because of racists statements. That said there is some legal restrictions to using the word Degree but not Diploma in the UK. In the US there is no restrictions on either.
I therefore would like and feel it safer to continue with the ULC Seminary or ULC.net as the qualification granter.
